Deadly shooting outside Turkish comedy night in Berlin

One person has been killed and four others seriously injured following a shooting late on Friday evening outside a Berlin music venue, German authorities have said.

Unknown people opened fire around 11pm local time outside the Tempodrom, a multi-purpose venue near the city centre.

The Tempodrom had been hosting a stage performance of Güldür Güldür Show, a popular Turkish television comedy show on Friday evening.

According to Turkish media reports the event had ended, and the audience was pouring out on to the street when the shooting took place immediately outside the venue.

Eye witnesses told German Turkish press that a group of about fifteen people dressed entirely in black entered into a confrontation with some people exiting the Güldür Güldür Show. The heated argument quickly escalated and resulted in multiple people being shot.

One person – believed to be of Turkish heritage – was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. Four others who were shot are said to be in a serious, but stable condition in hospital. A few others who were slightly injured received treatment from emergency services who had rushed to the scene of the attack.

The area around the Tempodrom was quickly surrounded by police. It’s not clear if the other group were also of Turkish origin, and what prompted the clash and shooting.

No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.
