Drummer, producer and founder of NRR Music Tansay Omar brings his live project FUNKSHY back for another groove-heavy evening at Hideaway. The band features some of London’s finest musicians, aided by the stunning vocals of Debbralee Wells and the powerful soul voice of Derane (Living Sounds).
Following their 2013 release Made in London, Tansay and his talented band have been back in the studio recording tracks for new album A London Rhythm. The 11 songs are stamped with FUNKSHY’s trademark multi-layered sound of Funk, Dub, World, Reggae, and Soul: it’s chilled out soul with a funky skip, a peppering of blues, Eastern and reggae influences that’s gorgeous to listen to and perfect to get your groove on.
We’ve been lucky enough to get our hands on a preview copy and it’s been on repeat at the T-VINE office ever since. Standout tracks include album opener Destiny, One Lover, and instrumental Timepeace.
On Thursday night, a 6-piece FUNKSHY will be getting the Streatham massive working up a sweat at Hideaway. Band leader Tansay told T-VINE fans can expect a taster of what’s on the new album, along with older favourites.
Line up: Debbralee Wells – Vocals, Living Sounds (Derane) – Vocals and Guitar, Tansay Omar – Drums, Dan Lipman – Sax and Flute, Emanuel Kofi – Bass, and Christopher Lane – Guitar.
