Hire bikes from the Buffer Zone to see Nicosia – Europe’s last divided capital

If you’re keen to see the capital of Cyprus in a day or two, what better way than on a bicycle to help you navigate around the narrow streets of the Old City on both sides of the Green Line that separates Turkish North Cyprus from the Greek South. There are no end of treasures new and old to discover, and with several border crossing points, it’s easy to see both parts in a single trip.

If you’re in need of a hire bike, head to the excellent Home for Cooperation, located in the Ledra Palace Buffer Zone in Nicosia. This happy home for both Cypriot communities and others living or visiting the island boasts many innovative services including a hire bike scheme. The rental service is available from Monday to Friday from 9am to 9pm, and on Saturday from 9.30am to 5pm.

The price of hiring a bike starts at €5 for between 1 hour and 5 hours, or €8 to ride for 6 to 24 hours. Alternatively, hire a bike for the whole weekend: Saturday to Monday, which costs €10, or rent for 72 hours (Friday to Monday) and pay €20.
