The British public’s frustrations at failing to find essential household items such as toilet paper, detergents and pasta in their local supermarket during the coronavirus pandemic has prompted one major wholesaler to act.
JJ Foodservice – one of the UK’s largest wholesalers – has just launched a new home delivery service.
Members of the public can place an online delivery before 9pm and have it delivered to their homes the next day, or they can come to their nearest JJ Foodservice branch and collect in person on the same day.
The firm’s usual client base includes local authorities, schools, prisons, hospitals, restaurants and cafes. However, the huge demand for home deliveries and the lengthy delays that have ensued led the national wholesaler to extend its services to the general public.
Chief Operating Officer at JJ Foodservice, Mushtaque Ahmed, said, “With schools closing and many of us required to work from home, having essential products like bottled water, fresh and frozen foods have never been more important. We are here to help.”
Click and collect direct from JJ’s to avoid a minimum spend: prices are cheaper too!
Demand for supplies across all eleven JJ branches have more than doubled in recent weeks. The wholesaler has responded by expanding night shift hours to fulfil orders; increasing the capacity for stock holding at all warehouses; and offering even better deals on key grocery items.
A spokesperson for JJ Food Service confirmed to T-VINE there had been “no price hikes” to any of their stock, which has been another major gripe among consumers shopping at independent retail stores.
Current JJ offers include 5kgs of pasta from £7.99, 6 bottles of 1.5litre water from just 99p, toilet roll from just £6.99 for 36 rolls (19p each), and hellim / Cyprus style cheese £7.99.
A minimum spend of £79 is required for home delivery. Customers will be advised when placing their first order whether their home location is within one of the designated areas serviced by the wholesaler.
Alternatively, customers can place an online order for any amount and collect their goods in person on the same day from one of 11 JJ Foodservice branches: Enfield, Sidcup, Basingstoke, Dagenham, Birmingham, Bristol, Doncaster, Leicester, Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle. Branches are open seven days a week.
