New International Diversity Festival London to showcase benefits of multiculturalism

Londoners are about to get a brand new platform to enjoy cultural diversity and engage in greater multicultural social and economic enterprise. On Friday 22 September, the British, Indian and Turkish Business Forum (BITBF) is holding the International Diversity Festival London (IDFL) at Kensington and Chelsea Town Hall, in West London.

Turkey’s Ministry of Tourism and Culture is the main sponsor for this free event, which is open to all members of the public. Organisers have billed this year’s theme as ‘Unite, Embrace and Grow’ through which they intend to “actively promote, challenge and develop an understanding of equality, diversity and multiculturalism in the UK”.

The evening will start with a networking reception before cultural artists representing fifteen countries will perform in the main hall. There will be a mix of music, dance, shows and talks. Refreshments produced by participating nations, which include Bulgaria, Mexico, North Cyprus, Sierra Leone, will be served throughout the evening.

BITBF and IDLF are both not-for-profit organisations, formed by Turkish business man Mustafa Aydın and Southwark councillor and former Mayor Sunil Chopra, who is of Indian origin. The two men have worked together on a number of commercial and cultural projects before, including jointly hosting the 8th International European Quality Conference in London in 2015.

They believe IDFL will help “connect different faiths, communities and groups” in the capital and beyond by promoting the “social, cultural and economic benefits of cultural diversity”.

According to their statement, part of the group’s remit is to raise awareness of the “outstanding social and economic contributions of Minority Ethnic businesses, professionals, individuals, social enterprises and change makers who have demonstrated leadership, innovation, creativity and survival skills in business operation and congregation development.”
