Nilüfer Yanya taking her jazzy pop anthems across Britain, Europe and USA

Ten days ago, Nilüfer Yanya’s eagerly awaited debut album Miss Universe finally dropped and already fans and music critics are going mad for it.

In its review, US music magazine Pitchfork said: “The rapturous debut from the British singer-songwriter takes adventurous pop-rock crucibles to new heights with her illusory songwriting and stunning voice.”

The UK’s Clash magazine went further, describing Yanya’s new album, on ATO Records, as “innovative and striking pop euphoria…. every track sends shivers down the spine”.

Wall Street Journal found Yanya’s voice to be “the center of the galaxy”, while MTV said “Yanya oozes starpower”.

You can see for yourself, as the 23 year-old West Londoner is currently on tour across Britain and Europe. Of Turkish-Bajan-Irish heritage, Nilüfer kicked off with a sellout gig in Babylon in her father’s ancestral homeland Istanbul on 28 March. She’s also set to play in Austria, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Portugal and Spain before heading across the Atlantic for a handful of dates on the East Coast of the US this summer.

For those in the UK, the bad news is her 9 April show at Evolutionary Arts Hackney is already sold out, with a waiting list for any returns. However, tickets are still available for her other gigs including at Yes in Manchester (4 April), O2 Academy Oxford (13 April), The Haunt in Brighton (14 April), and Birmingham’s Hare and Hounds on 11 April – see below for details.

As we saw for ourselves when she played the Blue Flowers showcase at the Jazz Café at the end of 2017, Nilüfer is a truly unique, warm artist and utterly brilliant live. The entire audience was totally captivated by her rich, soulful voice and her guitar-strumming performance.
