Acclaimed British Turkish Cypriot author Metin Murat’s highly anticipated second book, Meeting Sister, is released worldwide on Thursday, June 26, by Işık Kitabevi.
This thrilling sequel to Metin’s debut book, The Crescent Moon Fox, brings the story into the new millennium as the adult children of Zeki Aziz are forced to navigate the murky affairs of their father and his Cypriot homeland.
Meeting Sister homes in on the lives of Zeki Aziz’s financier son Sandy and his half-sister Defne, who didn’t know the other existed until the funeral of an uncle. The siblings choose to move to Cyprus, but their idyllic life in their father’s village is shattered when family secrets come to the fore. Seeking revenge, Sandy and Defne embark on a dangerous path with devastating consequences.
The book’s gripping storyline, complex characters, and deep-rooted connections between past and present Cyprus has captivated early readers and promises to resonate with many more from diverse backgrounds.
The release of Meeting Sister also marks a monumental step for Işık Kitabevi – North Cyprus’ leading publisher – as it will be their first internationally available title, offering a much-needed platform for Turkish Cypriot authors and their stories to reach a wider global audience.
“I’m thrilled to see Meeting Sister find its place in bookstores across the world,” said Metin Murat. “While a work of fiction, the novel’s universal themes of love, hate and revenge, and the dark affairs of Cyprus, will connect with readers everywhere.
“I’m also excited for Işık Kitabevi and I hope it will lead to many more Turkish Cypriot authors having the chance to share their stories on the international stage.”
The British-born writer who is of Turkish Cypriot descent through his father, diplomat Murat Akiner, who tragically died in a car accident just before Metin was born, grew up in a multi-cultural environment with exposure to English, Welsh, and French cultures. His day job is a business consultant and he has worked extensively in the Middle East, developing a deep affection for the Levant and he is currently in the process of moving to Cyprus.
