Tonight: BRT screening of London interview with members of Cyprus Missing Persons Committee

North Cyprus state broadcaster BRT will tonight screen a special interview with the Turkish Cypriot members of the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) in Cyprus. Gülden Plümer Küçük and Mine Balman appear on the Londra Gündem programme with presenter Ertanch Hidayettin. Ms Küçük and Ms Balman are currently in London as part of a small delegation to explain the important humanitarian work of the Committee and to seek new information from the Cypriot diaspora about those who disappeared during the Cyprus Conflict of 1963 to 1974. The appeal has become more urgent in recent times due to the elderly age of those Cypriots who possess crucial information on the locations of those killed during eleven-years of intercommunal fighting. Over the past twelve years, the CMP have been able to trace over half of those reported missing through public tip-offs. The CMP believe many older Cypriots who relocated to London during or after the conflict may hold vital clues on those still missing. They hope their visit to the British capital and direct appeal via community meetings and the media will yield new information. CMP to visit TWPA

Tomorrow morning, the Turkish Cypriot delegation will visit the Turkish Philanthropic Women’s Association (TWPA) at 11am to discuss their work and appeal with its members. Organised in conjunction with the Council of Turkish Cypriot Associations in Britain, the session is open to the wider public too. The address for TWPA is Willoughby Road, Hornsey, London N8 OHR.
