Turkish pop and rock singer Sibel Tüzün will bring a night of familiar favourites to Glasgow this October, performing a special concert at Mono to celebrate Turkish Republic Day.
Taking place on Sunday 18 October, the concert will feature much-loved Turkish pop songs from the 1980s and 1990s alongside Tüzün’s own hits, including “Kaçın Kurası”, “Kırmızı” and “Beni Bağlamaz”.
The evening offers Turkish music fans from Glasgow, Edinburgh and further afield a chance to come together ahead of Cumhuriyet Bayramı on 29 October, which marks the proclamation of the Turkish Republic in 1923.
With a career spanning more than three decades, Tüzün has explored pop, rock and jazz. Her musical education began in TRT’s Istanbul children’s choir, followed by its youth choir and studies at Istanbul University’s conservatory, before she launched her recording career in the early 1990s.
International audiences will also remember her as Türkiye’s representative at the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest in Athens. Performing “Süper Star”, which she wrote and composed herself, Tüzün finished 11th in the Grand Final.
Her Glasgow visit will include a guest appearance at Eurobash on Saturday 17 October, before she takes the stage for her own concert the following evening. OGAE UK’s annual Eurovision fan convention is being held at the Crowne Plaza Glasgow, bringing fans together for a day of Eurovision entertainment.
The Republic Day concert is supported by main sponsor Türkiye EFES / Meyhane, with Esteem Life Medical Group as event partner.
