Kent’s Turkish Cypriot community is gearing up for its second annual festival, with a day of live music, traditional dance, food and family entertainment taking place in Barham, near Canterbury, at the end of August.

Kent’s 2nd Turkish Cypriot Festival will be held at The Duke of Cumberland on Sunday, 30 August, following the success of the inaugural event at the same venue last summer. Organisers say this year’s gathering will be bigger, bringing the community together once again for a colourful celebration of Turkish Cypriot culture.

Running from 12 noon until 8pm, the family-friendly festival will feature a packed programme of live entertainment headed by DJ Eren and DJ Le Pash, alongside performances from Ekin, Havva (pictured top), Süreya and Kıbrıs Dörtlüsü (also pictured top).

There will also be a taste of traditional Cypriot culture courtesy of Mormenekşe Kadınlar Birliği Derneği (Mormenekşe Women’s Union Association), whose performers will showcase folk traditions from the island.

Away from the stage, visitors can expect Turkish Cypriot food and drink, stalls, crafts and activities, making the festival as much about community and culture as the music and dancing.

“Bring your friends and family for a fantastic day of culture, community, great food, and unforgettable entertainment. Whether you’re Turkish Cypriot or simply looking for a fun day out, everyone is welcome!”, is the message from the hosts.

The Duke of Cumberland is a traditional country pub with a large garden, children’s play area and marquee, so lots of room for everyone.

Entry to Kent’s 2nd Turkish Cypriot Festival is free, as is parking, so whether you’re a Turkish Cypriot or someone looking for a culturally diverse experience, head over to Canterbury for a fun day out.
