Described as “one of the finest, most intriguing singers on the British world music scene” by The Guardian, Olcay Bayir brings her unique style and powerful vocals to Cambridge Junction for her first show in the city.
Olcay’s international band comprises of some of London’s most exceptional musicians, who will perform a dynamic, rhythmic live set that fuses the singer’s traditional Anatolian heritage with irresistible contemporary grooves.
The band’s sophisticated arrangements complement Olcay’s stunning vocals in a beautiful showcase of folkloric stories and original music in Turkish, Kurdish, and Armenian.
Born in the historical city of Gaziantep, near Turkey’s Syrian border, Olcay moved to the UK as a teenager and went on to train in opera before going back to her roots with her first album Neva (Harmony).
Olcay’s second album Rüya (Dream) was in the Top 50 of World Music Charts Europe.
