Turkish indie band Adamlar to make UK debut with exclusive gig at Islington Assembly Hall

British fans of acclaimed indie rock band Adamlar will finally have the chance to see them up close and live when they play the Islington Assembly Hall in London next month. The gig will mark the band’s first performance in the UK.

The four-piece band have been going for nearly a decade, releasing three studio albums and two EPs in that time, starting with Eski Dostum Tankla Gelmiş (2014).

Comprising of Tolga Akdoğan (vocals and electric guitar), Gürhan Öğütücü (electric guitar), Berat İşçioğlu (bass guitar), and Berkan Tilavel (drums), Adamlar’s evocative sound fuses rock with Turkish folk and blues, electronica, hip hop, reggae and anything else that takes their fancy.

The emphasis is on producing powerful songs, which have deep, intense, and often ironic lyrics about various aspects about life.

Sarılırım Birine [I Hug Someone] – the standout track from Adamlar’s third album Dünya Günlükleri (2019) – is a life-affirming songabout not getting stuck on backbiting and hate, better to focus on love and happiness.

The melancholic Acının İlacı [The Medicine of Pain] from Rüyalarda Buruşmuşuz (2016) hits home about life’s struggles, troubles and unfairness, while saying we need to share each other’s sorrows as a cure for this pain.

The quartet’s primary songwriter is Tolga Akdoğan, whose easy-listening vocals carry the song beautifully to the listener.

In November 2021, the band dropped the first of a two part long-play called Harekete Kimse Mani Olamaz [No One Can Obstruct the Movement], with part two released earlier this year.

A treat live, catch them play their biggest and latest hits at their sole date in the UK in January 2024.
