Jazz Café: Djanan Turan and The Flying Karpet present tribute night to Barış Manço

If you are a fan of Barış Manço, get ready for the third edition of the Psychedelic World of Barış Manço that pays homage to this iconic Turkish rock star.

The brainchild of eclectic singer-songwriter Djanan Turan, this special night commemorates the anniversary of Barış Manço’s passing on 1 February 1999.

Each year, Djanan and a host of guest stars and musicians perform classic songs from Barış Manço’s back catalogue at the Jazz Café. This year is the turn of the Flying Karpet collective to take to the stage with Djanan.

As a pioneer of rock music in Turkey and one of the founders of the Anatolian psychedelic folk rock genre, Barış Manço is the best-selling, most awarded and influential Turkish artist of all time. His popularity far exceeds Turkey, with Manço fans found in France through to faraway Japan.

Among his timeless classics are Dağlar Dağlar, Alla Beni Pulla Beni, Arkadaşım Eşek, Halil İbrahim Sofrası, Kol Düğmeleri, Gülpembe, and Halhal.

Djanan Turan and The Flying Karpet have put together a bespoke 90-minute live set to celebrate his musical legacy, and the perfect opportunity for a mass sing-song with British Turks and Manço fans.

Originally from Turkey, Djanan Turan has been at the forefront of the North London music scene for many years, fusing earthy Turkish folk, electronica and edgy global beats.
