Two popular British Turkish Cypriot Facebook groups have come together to hold a charity ball in North London. Kibris Worldwide and TCCUK are jointly hosting the Birik Balosu [Unity Ball] at Grand Palace Banqueting Suite in Wood Green on 29 October 2023 to raise money for ten charities in the UK and the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus.

Among the charities that are being supported by the Birik Balosu are Dr. Fazıl Küçük Turkish School,  Tanyel’s Smile, Heartbeat-North Cyprus Cancer Charity Trust,  Family Based Solutions, Shacklewell Lane Mosque, SOS Çocukköyü Derneği, and İskele Köpek Barınağı (İskele Dog Shelter).

Tickets are priced £55 per person or £500 for a table of ten and includes a 3-course meal plus soft drinks, raffle tickets, and lots of live entertainment.

Details of the line-up will be announced in the coming weeks, but is expected to include music, comedy and theatre sketches. The organisers are also toying with having a red and white theme as the ball falls on the occasion of the Republic of Turkiye’s centenary.

Opportunities also exist of businesses and organisations to have a stall at the event or to sponsor it.
