One of Turkiye’s biggest musical exports in recent years is dance music producer Mahmut Orhan. The Turkish star hit the big time with his 2016 global smash hit Feel, featuring Sena Sener, with the striking video filmed in Istanbul.
The uplifting song has amassed over half a billion streams on YouTube and Spotify, becoming the #1 track in iTunes’ Dance and Main Charts in 11 countries and 5 territories, while hitting the Top 20 charts in ten other countries, while rising to #25 Worldwide on Shazam.
Orhan is scheduled to play at the Electric Brixton later this year as part of a global tour. When promoters Labyrinth Events put tickets on sale for the 1 June 2024 event, the gig sold out in in just 45 minutes! A second date, Friday 31 May, at the same 1,700 capacity South London venue is on the verge of selling out, with promoters stating there are only a few hundred tickets left.
If you miss out on seeing Orhan live, he is due to drop his debut album, ‘Pangea’, out on Ultra Records on 22 March 2024. The Bursa-born artist describes the album as a personal reflection, where his memories, experiences, journeys, and inspirations all come together.
His latest single, ‘Andalusian’, is a high-energy track with a harder melodic techno beat and vocals influenced by the Lebanon and Middle Eastern psytrance scene.
For those curious about Orhan’s origins, the house music DJ turned producer started off working with music in Bursa at the age of 15. He moved to Istanbul aged 18 to work at a Bebek nightclub in 2011 and learned his trade by remixing tracks from the 80s and 90s. He first experienced international success came in 2015 with the instrumental song Age of Emotions.
After Feel put him on the global map, Orhan has gone on to release many more infectious dance tunes, fusing house with his own Turkish cultural heritage and more, with many of his music videos also showcasing the amazing sights of his native Turkiye.
His career has continued to soar since Feel, getting Orhan more international recognition, air play and gigs. He has delivered incredible live sets at multiple top festivals including ULTRA Europe, the mainstage of Parookaville alongside Ummet Ozcan, Airbeat One, and notable venues including White Dubai.
His irresistible remix of Roger Sanchez’s ‘Again’ last year has propelled him to the forefront of the global dance music scene.
The Turkish star is set to perform his debut gig in London later this year. Promoters say, “Expect a fully curated Mahmut Orhan headline show at Electric Brixton.”
