See Elif Shafak and First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon discuss the need for more women to be heard in public life

A co-production with Fane Productions sees First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon meet Elif Shafak, Turkey’s most widely read female author and recently placed under investigation in her own country, in this timely and riveting discussion of democracy and human rights today.

Shafak’s universally praised latest novel, has been described as a “piercing, unflinching look at the trauma women’s minds and bodies are subjected to in a social system defined by patriarchal codes.” Guardian)

With the global political landscape increasingly polarised, these two distinctive voices will discuss the importance of culture, empathy and storytelling and why we need more women of all backgrounds to speak up in the public space.

After the talk, Elif Shafak will be signing copies of 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in this Strange World, which is available now from the National Theatre Bookshop and all good book stores.
