Silk Road series of short films kicks off in East London with exploration of Turkey and Turkish culture

Whether you’re a film connoisseur or simply curious about Turkish traditions, you are bound to enjoy this selection of seven short films offering a compelling visual depiction of the diverse world of Turks.

British charity The Bagri Foundation and Shorts On Tap Tales have combined to present their first edition of Tales of the Silk Road, starting at the most western edge of Asia. The evening’s programme will feature a mixture of shorts and mini documentaries “exploring, depicting and deciphering Turkey”.

East London venue 93 Feet East plays host on 7 November. Several of the filmmakers will be present alongside special guests, actor Devrim Evin, photojournalist Yunus Dalgic, singer-songwriter Olcay Bayir, and influencer Melisa Beleli, who will take part in live performances and a panel discussion after the screenings.

The short films screening at Tales of the Silk Road – Chapter 1 are:

7 Centimetres (16:30″) by Metehan Sereflioglu

The Yarn (10:28″) by Gokce Pehlivanoglu

Tales of the Silk Road is a new cross-arts series of events taking place in diverse venues across London during 2018 and 2019. Each chapter will feature short films, culture, art and the traditions of a specific Asian country located along the Silk Road.

The Bagri Foundation aims to improve our understanding of Asian cultures whilst providing the opportunity for artistic exchanges and enriching experiences.

Shorts On Tap is London‘s leading short film community. Over the past four years they have screened hundreds of short films and documentaries at sold out events across the capital.
