Get into the festive zone Turkish-style with Fasl-i Keyf at London’s Babel Art House this weekend

Groups performing Turkish classical music (aka fasıl) in Britain are few and far between. One of the best is five-piece outfit Fasl-i Keyf, whose name means ‘fasıl delight’. If you’re in London and fancy easing yourself into the festive season a la Turkish style, they are performing in Stoke Newington, North London, on Saturday night.

Formed in 2013, the Fasl-i Keyf line up comprises of Melek Yalcin (singer), Turgay Gocen (violin), Mehmet Yaren (bağlama and cümbüş), Baha Yetkin (oud), and Muammer Saglam (percussion). Together they bring to life a style of music that is rooted in Ottoman times, but has evolved into the modern era with classic, yet popular songs that have found themselves performed live on air and in tavernas across Turkey. It’s beautiful music that speaks to the soul.

With Yalcin’s powerful vocals and master musicians, aided by tasty mezes and Turkish raki, this is destined be a truly memorable night. Entry is just £10.
