Bedük has been rocking audiences worldwide for 15 years, but surprisingly this multi-talented Turkish artist has never performed in London. All that is set to change on Thursday when the dance musician / producer / singer takes to the stage at the O2 Academy Islington.
With a capacity of just 900, Londoners will be able to witness up close the unique sounds of one of Turkey’s best exports: his mix of funk/rock infused electronic dance music is guaranteed to get you moving.
Described as Turkey’s Daft Punk, Bedük will be debuting tracks from his forthcoming album Flashforward, as well as digging into his back catalogue for his biggest hits like Automatik (2009, Dance Revolution) and most memorable covers, among them This Fire (Franz Ferdinand), Rock‘n’ Roll Queen (The Subways) and Missing (Everything But The Girl).
Prolific in the studio, Bedük has amassed ten albums to date and his music regularly tops the Turkish charts, and features on the dance floors of clubs across southern Europe. He has been nominated for two MTV awards: New Sounds Europe (2007) and Best European Act (2009), while picking up multiple awards in his native Turkey.
The Ankara-born artist, who records in both English and Turkish, released his first album in 2004 and his style of catchy rock/dance music broke the mould in Turkey. From the get-go, Bedük emphasised his creativity visually. His music videos were championed by MTV and also helped him to build a big following online via YouTube.
Via a statement from his London promoter Piu Entertainment, Bedük said: “London is the capital of music and for me starting a worldwide journey from London is the best feeling. I am really excited about performing in London for the first time on 8th of March. People get ready!”
Supporting on the night is folk Gazel. The singer-songwriter performed a sellout gig at Borderline a few weeks ago, and her blend of pop, electronic and folk music will be the perfect warm-up for Bedük. She will be live between 7.45pm-8.15pm.
