Barbican the sole UK date for Mabel Matiz’s European ‘Fatih’ tour

Mabel Matiz is without doubt one of Turkiye’s biggest pop stars.

A little over a year ago, the chart-topping singer-songwriter staged an incredible show at the Barbican. He returns to the venue in February as part of a European tour to promote his new album Fatih, in what promises to be one of the standout Turkish concerts of 2024.

Musically, Matiz is as bold and colourful as his dress sense. Releasing music for over 15 years, the Mersin-born artist offers a fascinating blend of maqam music, urban pop and Anatolian folk melodies, bound together with international beats, from Euro trance to reggae lilts, that never fails to please.

He has enjoyed huge hits with tracks such as Öyle Kolaysa, Gel and Antidepresan, while his music videos have been viewed over a billion times on YouTube alone, cementing Matiz’s position as one of the most influential artists of his generation.

In July, Matiz dropped his eagerly anticipated fifth album, the self-titled Fatih (Matiz’s real name is Fatih Karaca). The long-play contains 25 varied tracks that span multiple genres and tempos, and includes several of Matiz’s recent high-profile collaborations, including İki Satır Yara (ft Aşkın Nur Yengi), Aşk Çeşmesi (ft Kalben) and the brilliant Uçkun that he recorded with Syrian artist Hello Psychaleppo.

Many have described Fatih as the Turkish “album of the year’. It certainly shows Turkiye’s leading contemporary troubadour at the top of his game, with fans able to hear for themselves when he plays the Barbican next year.
