JJ to the rescue: giant wholesaler offers ‘next day delivery’ to British homes during coronavirus crisis

The British public’s frustrations at failing to find essential household items such as toilet paper, detergents and pasta in their local supermarket during the coronavirus pandemic has prompted one major wholesaler to act.

JJ Foodservice – one of the UK’s largest wholesalers – has just launched a new home delivery service.

Members of the public can place an online delivery before 9pm and have it delivered to their homes the next day, or they can come to their nearest JJ Foodservice branch and collect in person on the same day.

The firm’s usual client base includes local authorities, schools, prisons, hospitals, restaurants and cafes. However, the huge demand for home deliveries and the lengthy delays that have ensued led the national wholesaler to extend its services to the general public.

Chief Operating Officer at JJ Foodservice, Mushtaque Ahmed, said, “With schools closing and many of us required to work from home, having essential products like bottled water, fresh and frozen foods have never been more important. We are here to help.”

Demand for supplies across all eleven JJ branches have more than doubled in recent weeks. The wholesaler has responded by expanding night shift hours to fulfil orders; increasing the capacity for stock holding at all warehouses; and offering even better deals on key grocery items.

A spokesperson for JJ Food Service confirmed to T-VINE there had been “no price hikes” to any of their stock, which has been another major gripe among consumers shopping at independent retail stores.
