Young Turkish male found shot dead in Tottenham Cemetery on Monday morning

Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was fatally shot in Tottenham Cemetery, North London.

Armed officers, the National Police Air Service (NPAS) and London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended after police were called to the cemetery at just before 8am on Monday, 3 September.

They found a 22-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds and despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. A post mortem examination will take place in due course.

The man’s next of kin have been informed and although formal identification awaits, the victim was named locally as İsmail Tanrıkulu, whose family is originally from Turkey.

Detective Inspector Simon Stancombe from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command (HMCC) said: “At this early stage of the investigation we are keeping an open mind to the motive of this attack. I urge anyone who may have seen anything to contact police as soon as possible.”

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.
