Türkiye’s Group F rivals confirmed after Georgia qualifies for EURO 2024 finals

Earlier this week, six teams competed in the second and final round of the play-offs for the three remaining places at the EURO 2024 finals that will kick off in Germany on Friday 14 June.

One of the three playoff spots was in Group F, where Türkiye was drawn with Portugal and the Czech Republic in December.

Two teams were vying for the fourth place in Group F this week: Georgia and Greece, who had beaten Luxembourg and Kazakhstan respectively the previous week in the first Play-off C matches.

On Tuesday, Georgia hosted Greece at the Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena in Tblisi. The tense game ended in a 0-0 draw, with the match decided on penalties, which the home side won 4-2. Georgia’s success marks the first time the country has ever qualified for the finals of a major football tournament.

Ukraine and Poland won the other two playoffs, beating Iceland and Wales in their respective second round playoff games.

Tuesday’s results confirm Türkiye’s opponent as Georgia for its first group game at the EURO 2024 finals, which will be played at the BVB Stadion Dortmund on 18 June.

The Turks will play their second group game at the same stadium four days later against Portugal, before travelling to Hamburg for their final group game against the Czech Republic.

Poland will line up against the Netherlands, Austria, and France in Group D, while Ukraine takes up the final spot in Group E against Belgium, Slovakia, and Romania.
