USA knock out Turkiye in quarterfinals of Women’s Volleyball World Championship

The Sultans of the Net are out of the World Cup are failing to find a way past a strong USA side in their quarterfinal match in Poland.

The Turks were on the back foot from the start of the match, losing in three straight sets to the Americans: 25-22, 25-15, and 25-20.

The defeat ends the Turkish national side’s run at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2022, where they are placed in the top 8 sides in the world.

The tournament, which started on 23 September and is being jointly hosted by the Netherlands and Poland, had a total of 32 countries competing for the title.

The USA now play the reigning champions, Serbia, in the first semi-final on Wednesday, 12 October. Serbia were pushed hard by the host nation Poland in a thrilling 5-set quarterfinal, and will need to dig deep to overcome the Americans.

Italy will take on Brazil in the other semi-final after they respectively beat China and Japan in their quarterfinals on Tuesday.

The winners of the two semis will play in the final of the World Cup on 15 October.
